Saturday: Grosjean and Lotus hoped for better in qualifying
Romain Grosjean set the 14th fastest time during qualifying, but the Frenchman is pleased with his Lotus and believes he could have probably done better with one more lap. Pastor Maldonado, on the other hand, was eliminated in Q1 due to an intake problem with the turbo of his Renault power unit.
Romain Grosjean (No. 8) – 13th and 14th
The Frenchman is happy with the progress made by his Lotus and hoped to do a bit better in qualifying: « We expected some tough times in Canada, but if you ignore the grid position, I’m happy that we made progress with the car because it’s better to drive. Qualifying was frustrating because we missed out on gaining a few more places with an extra lap, but we couldn’t have overcome our top speed deficit in the straight. »
Pastor Maldonado (No. 13) – 15th and 17th
The Venezuelan was eliminated in the first part of the qualifiers due to a problem with his Renault power unit: « We had an issue which meant I was losing a lot of power on my fast lap. The engineers asked me to stop the car immediately, which is a shame because I think we could have fought for a place in Q2. Anything can happen in the race so we’ll see what happens. »
