Saturday: Sutil reaches Q2, Gutiérrez deprived of qualifying at Sauber
Following an issue during FP3, Esteban Gutiérrez was unable to participate in the qualifying session because the Swiss team did not have enough time to repair his Sauber C33. Adrian Sutil did what he could and managed to make it to Q2, but his car is still not competitive enough.
Adrian Sutil (No. 99) – 17th and 16th
If the German experienced a complicated qualifying session, he is satisfied with having made it to Q2: « Once again, it was not an easy qualifying session. However, we made it to Q2 this time, which is a small achievement in itself, even if the performance hasn’t improved. »
But Sutil knows there is still a lot of work to be done to improve the behavior of the C33: « The car is difficult to drive. We need more downforce and we have deficits in many areas. It’s very tricky to control the car with the throttle because it’s very nervous. »
Esteban Gutiérrez (#21) – 22nd and no time [will start from the pit lane]
The Mexican did not take part in the qualifications because the Sauber team did not have time to repair his damaged Sauber during free practice 3: « It was a disappointing day, having already encountered some problems on Friday. Regarding what happened today, we need to further analyze what caused the problem. I came into the corner with a bit of oversteer, and then something happened and I completely lost the car. »
Gutiérrez has been authorized by the race stewards to take part in the Grand Prix this Sunday and will start from the pit lane.
