Sunday: Impossible to score points at Toro Rosso

Unfortunately, today is not the day Jean-Eric Vergne reconnects with luck. The French driver is accumulating problems upon problems. This time, it was exhaust issues that forced him to retire. Meanwhile, Daniil Kvyat managed to finish the race but could not do better than 14th place. A weekend that both drivers would like to forget.

Sunday: Impossible to score points at Toro Rosso

Daniil Kvyat (No. 26) – 14th

After a good first stint, Kvyat hoped to fight for some points. However, that was not counting on the race’s challenges, particularly tire wear. To be honest, it was a very difficult race today. First of all, we lacked pace, and on top of that came tire wear, which was quite significant. On the 7th lap, Kvyat overtook Gutierrez and secured 11th place. Engaged in multiple battles throughout the Grand Prix, the Russian driver then caught up with the Force India cars. At the end of my first stint and after some overtakes on the outside line, I managed to get closer to the two Force India cars, but unfortunately, it wasn’t enough. Even with new tires for the last stint and overtaking a few cars towards the end of the race, it wasn’t possible to get into the points today.

Jean-Eric Vergne (no. 25) – Retirement

And Jean-Eric Vergne would not say otherwise. Indeed, the Frenchman was unable to defend his team as he wanted, forced to retire for the third time in 5 races. « Someone asked me if I felt a bit persecuted by bad luck at the moment. It seems like it, but it’s part of the game. I always do everything I can, my team works very hard, but we are never safe from a problem. ». While the Frenchman was making a good comeback, the first troubles began to appear; « The first stint was quite difficult because I had a problem with the front left brake that caused a front lock-up, but we managed to continue (…) then an exhaust problem ended my race. ». After a difficult start to the season, one might think the driver would get discouraged but on the contrary, plans to double his efforts: « I am always very positive and I think I will have my chance. I love driving a Formula 1 car, no matter what happens. For Monaco, my team and I will once again put in all our efforts to have a good weekend. »
