Saturday: Grosjean in the top 5, Maldonado in the wall at Lotus
Lotus demonstrated that its Formula 1 had potential thanks to a very good Romain Grosjean. At the same time, his teammate was destroying his car against the wall.
Romain Grosjean (No. 8) – 5th and 5th
After all the obstacles encountered since the beginning of the season, the Franco-Swiss does not hide his satisfaction: « It’s very positive for the whole team to be on the third row of the grid. That’s where we want to be, and there is certainly more to come. »
He shares his plan for the race: « It’s difficult to overtake on this track, and we will try to preserve the tires as much as possible in the first stint to see how far we can take them. »
Pastor Maldonado (No. 13) – 9th and no time [21st on the grid]
Unfortunately for him, the native of Maracay hit the wall on his first flying lap, stating that he experienced a major oversteer that he couldn’t control. He hopes to gain ground tomorrow with good tire management: « With the tires available for the race, we can work on the strategy and hopefully recover a few positions on Sunday. »
