Marussia Motors grants independence to Marussia F1 Team

In 2010, the Russian car manufacturer Marussia Motors acquired a majority stake in the Virgin F1 team, which then became Marussia F1 Team. The operation was intended to promote the Russian brand and its supercar models on a global scale.

However, the adventure came to an end at the beginning of 2014, following the abandonment of the SuperCar project by Marussia Motors. It seems that most of the manufacturer’s employees have already left the company to join government technical institutes.

The spokesperson for the team, Tracy Novak, wants to reassure and clarify the situation in the columns of R-sport: « The SuperCar production project was ambitious, it is very disappointing that it could not be completed and reach the market. But there will not be the slightest impact on the functioning of the Formula 1 team. »

To ensure the independence of the Formula 1 team, Marussia F1 Team is now owned by Marussia Communications Limited, a company registered in Dublin, Ireland. Tracy Novak states: « There are no financial or technical links between the two companies (Marussia Motors and Marussia Communications Limited). The F1 team has already been operating independently for some time. »

Marussia F1 Team has long been reported as lacking funding, with rumors of a takeover by Serbian investor Zoran Stefanovic recently emerging. On this matter, Tracy Novak provides no information, simply stating that the team had a good start to the 2014 season and is looking forward to continuing this success and its ambitions. »
