Sunday: Hamilton and Rosberg secure the one-two finish for Mercedes
The star brand achieves an impressive double after dominating the race from start to finish. Lewis Hamilton performs a true solo run while Nico Rosberg, after outpacing Sebastian Vettel at the start, managed to control him until the end of the Grand Prix.
Lewis Hamilton (#44) – Victory
After securing the hat trick with pole position, fastest lap in the race, and victory, the winner of the day is obviously overjoyed: « I am incredibly happy today. This is my first victory in Malaysia after eight attempts. »
Lewis Hamilton proved to be fast but, more importantly, something we knew less about, a good manager. He states: « I managed to take good care of the car, the tires, and the fuel while maintaining a fairly high pace, which somewhat made the task easier for me. »
He emphasizes the importance of this result in terms of the constructors’ championship: « It’s great to see Mercedes leading the championship, but we know we need to make the early races count. Anything can happen, as was seen in Australia, so it’s an important result for us. Double podiums are not so common, and it’s a real achievement for the team. »
Nico Rosberg (No. 6) – 2nd
The German driver made sure to congratulate all the staff: « This is an incredible result for our team and for Mercedes-Benz. Everyone at the Brackley and Brixworth factories, as well as all Mercedes-Benz employees, can be very proud today. For the first time in the modern era of the Silver Arrows, we have achieved a one-two finish, which is an incredible result. »
He briefly recounts the race: « I had an excellent start again even though it was tight with Sebastian. I was really very close to the wall but I just closed my eyes and launched myself into the space and got through. Later, I managed to control the pace to defend my place against Seb but Lewis was out of my reach, so congratulations to him for this victory. »
