Ferrari – Domenicali: “We have a lot of things to improve”
The boss of the Ferrari team, Stefano Domenicali, stated that his team should not waste time dwelling on what could have been done better this winter but rather focus on how to improve it.
With Fernando Alonso and Kimi Räikkönen missing the podium in Australia, finishing 4th and 7th respectively after Daniel Ricciardo’s disqualification, Ferrari admits to being behind its rivals for the moment.
But as Stefano Domenicali faces a few busy weeks necessary to develop the car, he has asked his team not to waste their energy blaming each other for their situation. « This means that everyone must do their job and focus on what needs to be done at home, without trying to say it’s my fault or someone else’s fault, he explained. « As a team, we must react together, and that’s what I have asked of all my engineers. »
The Italian insists that there is no specific area on which Ferrari should focus its efforts because both the chassis and the engine need improvement. Following the battle and challenges Fernando Alonso faced in Australia to overtake Nico Hülkenberg (which he finally managed through the pit stop strategy), Domenicali comments on the power unit: This is an area we need to improve. The more power you have, the less you stay at full throttle, so you save on fuel consumption. We have many things to improve and I don’t want to focus only on that because the car also needs to be developed.
Earlier in the week, the German publication Auto Motor und Sport had mentioned the possibility of a Ferrari hybrid engine block being heavier than its competitors.
