Australia: No sanctions for Vettel, Magnussen, and Alonso
Following the qualifications, the stewards of the Australian Grand Prix summoned three drivers: Alonso, Vettel, and Magnussen, but none of them were penalized after reviewing their cases.
At the end of the qualifying session for the Australian Grand Prix, three drivers were under investigation by the track stewards: Fernando Alonso, Kevin Magnussen, and Sebastian Vettel.
The Spanish driver had been summoned in the context of a possible obstruction of Esteban Gutiérrez (Sauber) during Q1, but after analyzing the videos and summoning only the two drivers, the stewards judged that no infraction had been committed and consequently no penalty was imposed.
Regarding Magnussen and Vettel, both drivers were under investigation for not respecting the yellow flags deployed during Kimi Räikkönen’s accident at the end of Q2. However, after discussions with both men and after analyzing the data, the stewards determined that both drivers had sufficiently slowed down in the area affected by the incident. Therefore, no penalty was imposed.
For reference, two other drivers were penalized by the race stewards, Valtteri Bottas and Esteban Gutiérrez, for a gear change.
