Lotus will continue to use Altran’s services

After having to deal with an exodus of engineers since last season, Lotus is forced to resort to the services of external providers to ensure the development of its single-seater. That is why it has extended its partnership with Altran.

The collaboration between the two structures is not new since it already took place during the 2009 and 2010 seasons when the team was still called Renault and was restarted last summer. At that time, Genii Capital had just announced the arrival of Quantum Motorsport as a shareholder.

Today, the situation is quite different: the winter tests have been very complicated, and many engineers have preferred to work elsewhere while Genii Capital has just resumed its process of selling shares to external investors. The support that Enstone’s engineers can receive from Altran’s is therefore essential to accelerate the pace of developments, which will occur during a season where the cars are almost 100% different compared to last year.

Mike Simms, CEO of Altran UK, explains the contribution of his team: “We are delighted to continue our partnership with the Lotus F1 Team, a relationship based on a shared passion for innovation and an unbounded desire to stay ahead of the competition. The 2014 season brings a whole set of new rules, which require all F1 teams to make major changes in terms of design, engineering, and execution. Altran plays a crucial role in enabling the Lotus F1 Team to overcome this challenge, and we look forward to sharing this exciting and successful new year.”

As this is a technical partnership, Altran has no particular interest in displaying its logo on the cars of Romain Grosjean and Pastor Maldonado. This likely means that the man-days billed by the consulting firm are probably paid in cash rather than in advertising equivalents, as might be the case for other partnerships.

Thus, we can notice that the team’s website is currently unavailable as the team is in the process of migrating to Microsoft’s cloud computing platform, Azure. The Redmond giant is both a technical partner and a sponsor of the team, allowing the team to save on cash expenditures.
