Mexico strengthens its presence at Sauber
While Mexico was unable to secure a Grand Prix since 2014, its companies have never been more present in F1. Interproteccion has decided to extend its presence with Sauber. It is joined by Unifin.
These announcements are obviously linked to the renewed presence of Esteban Gutiérrez. The Mexican insurance company has been present in Hinwil since the beginning of the team’s Mexican venture as it had announced its arrival as early as December 2010.
After three seasons of cooperation, the two partners have decided to extend their association for at least one more season. However, it is interesting to note that Juan Ignacio Casanueva, the CEO of the company, repeated exactly the same words as in the 2010 announcement: « Interproteccion strives to achieve the highest standards, both with our clients and with our partners. And supporting young talented drivers like Esteban is a way of saying: ‘We believe in Mexico, we believe in success.’ »
Furthermore, Sauber also announced the arrival of a new official partner, Unifin. The financial institution is not entirely new to Sauber as it was already present on the rear wing of the Swiss cars during the last Italian Grand Prix. Today, it has decided to commit for the entire season. This will be reflected by a presence on the front wing of the C33 as well as on the suits of Adrian Sutil and Esteban Gutiérrez.
We can observe that Sauber is strengthening its portfolio of Mexican sponsors, but there is no news from the Russian front despite the presence of Sergey Sirotkin. Like Renault during Vitaly Petrov’s time and even for Marussia, it seems that F1 teams still struggle to monetize the presence of a Russian driver with their compatriot companies.
