Spagnolo, new race engineer for Räikkönen
Kimi Räikkönen made his first appearance since his end-of-season back surgery. The Finn took a trip to Maranello. It was an opportunity for the Scuderia to reveal the name of his race engineer for 2014.
Antonio Spagnolo. This name probably doesn’t mean much to you. Yet, he’s one of the key figures of Scuderia Ferrari, as this engineer worked on Fernando Alonso’s chassis last year. He’s received a sort of “promotion” by becoming Kimi Räikkönen’s new race engineer from 2014 onwards and will have to deal with the sometimes difficult character of the Finn. We still remember the stormy episodes between the 2007 world champion and his pit crew at Lotus, although in a very different context.
Kimi will have his 3rd engineer with the Reds
After Chris Dyer, with whom he won the 2007 title after a dazzling second half of the season, and Andrea Stella, the current engineer of Fernando Alonso, Räikkönen will work with his third engineer at Ferrari for his return to the Reds in 2014. The Scuderia also stated during their driver’s visit to Italy today that it was a good opportunity for Kimi to see the progress of the 2014 car. Furthermore, he was able to reconnect with old friends with whom he will be working again in a few weeks.
Räikkönen has surely had the opportunity to receive feedback on the 2014 car following recent tests conducted by Fernando Alonso in the Maranello team’s simulator.
