Now it’s the turn of the 2014 Caterham chassis to be homologated by the FIA
The Caterham team has a chassis homologated by the FIA for the 2014 season. The Leafield team is the second, after Sauber, to make such an announcement.
The Caterham F1 team announced that it has successfully passed the crash tests required by the FIA for the homologation of its chassis for the 2014 season – which will begin in Jerez de la Frontera on January 28th for the first winter testing session.
The team from Leafield is the second team to announce having a chassis homologated by the FIA for next year, after Sauber F1. The announcement was made on social media and notably on Facebook where the team published the following information: “We have successfully passed the two crash tests for the homologation of our 2014 chassis.” They also published a video of these crash tests, which you can find below.
If Caterham has a single-seater ready for 2014, for the moment, it has not revealed the names of its two official drivers. The team was hoping to announce its drivers quickly to prepare for 2014 as soon as possible, but according to Charles Pic’s recent statements, this could still take a few days as the Frenchman was hoping for an answer before Christmas. Besides the Frenchman, Caterham is also considering Giedo van der Garde – Pic’s teammate, Heikki Kovalainen, or Marcus Ericsson. The team wishes to pair an experienced driver with a young talent, acknowledging that the budget brought by a driver is a factor to be considered.
