Sergio Pérez to Force India?

I’m very happy with Sergio’s deal. He deserves it, he’s a good driver. I told him: prove to us that we were wrong… This statement from McLaren team director Martin Whitmarsh is clear and unequivocal. Sergio Pérez would remain in F1 in 2014. The question is where the Mexican might settle, as he clearly showed a better level in the last three Grand Prix, including a strong comeback in the Interlagos race, where the Telmex protégé performed impressively.

Starting 19th following his exit in qualifying and a 5-place penalty for a gearbox change, Pérez finishes 6th. Proof that the talent glimpsed at Sauber is still present. But it wasn’t enough to convince the Woking team to keep the native of Guadalajara.

Towards a Hülkenberg-Pérez duo?

The latest persistent rumors from the English media would therefore send the former Sauber and McLaren driver to Sahara Force India where he would join Nico Hülkenberg, who is also rumored to be part of Vijay Mallya’s team. This would leave both Paul di Resta and Adrian Sutil out in the cold. Although Sutil claims to have an F1 contract for 2014, di Resta’s future will likely be outside the F1 paddock.

A destination could suit the Scot: IndyCar. Let’s remember that Paul is the cousin of Dario Franchitti, who was recently forced to end his career after a very violent crash in Houston. A seat is therefore available at Chip Ganassi, and the support of the triple Indy champion and multiple Indy 500 winner could be decisive for di Resta. A return to DTM is not entirely out of the question, though the 2010 champion doesn’t seem interested.
