Sunday: A final disappointing race for Grosjean and Lotus F1
Romain Grosjean did not expect to finish his last Grand Prix of the year after just two laps, but that's what happened when his engine went up in smoke. Heikki Kovalainen didn't do better than in Austin, once again finishing in 14th position at the end. A disappointing last Grand Prix for the black and gold overall.
Heikki Kovalainen – 14th:
« I made a few mistakes, probably due to lack of habit, but I imagined it would be easier to come back and be competitive in the race. My starts, here and in Austin, were really bad. Each time, I struggled with the procedures, which resulted in me not being able to be in the mix at the start of the race. It’s disappointing because this sequence is so important for the race, and it’s very difficult to regain positions afterward.
I would like to thank everyone at Lotus F1 Team for all their support during these two races. It has been a wonderful opportunity to drive for Lotus F1 Team and I am upset that I couldn’t score points for them today. I think the car is excellent, but I was not able to exploit its qualities and make the most of it. It is probably a reflection of the current level of competitiveness in Formula 1.
Romain Grosjean – Retirement:
This season has been fantastic for the team and I believe we can be really proud of what we have accomplished together. We have proven that we are a top team and I am particularly proud of everyone, both in the pit and at Enstone. It wasn’t really planned [to sprint to the pits]. I didn’t think I’d start my training for the 2014 season so early! It’s time to take a little rest. Then, we can focus on the 2014 season with its new regulations and ensure we remain a top team.
