Sunday: 100% for Chilton and 10th place for Marussia
The Brazilian Grand Prix was a great success for the Marussia F1 team and its two drivers. The Russian team managed to maintain its 10th place in the constructors' championship against Caterham. Max Chilton saw the checkered flag for the 19th time in 19 races - a new rookie record - and Jules Bianchi once again finished ahead of the surviving Caterham of Giedo van der Garde and his teammate.
Jules Bianchi – 17th:
« Bravo to everyone on the team for this fantastic season and well-deserved 10th place in the championship [constructors]. Thank you to everyone for their work and commitment to providing us with the best possible car until the end. Today, again, I had a fantastic start and my first lap was good, but a few laps later, I suffered from graining with the medium tires and it was difficult to drive, and I had to give up my position. I knew everything depended on endurance, so I settled for it, knowing the balance would be much better with the hard tires. I pushed and drove as fast as possible in the next two stints to make as much progress as possible and it is very rewarding not only to have secured 10th place in the championship but also to have finished ahead of the Caterhams again in the race. This has been a very important and rewarding year for me personally, and I look forward to moving to the next level together in 2014. »
Max Chilton – 19th:
« It was hard to find our place today, having only driven in the rain all weekend. We only had the installation laps to make a few adjustments in an attempt to optimize our balance on dry conditions as best as possible. The middle part of the race was spent under constant threat of rain, but I knew all I had to do was to keep it steady and be ready for any scenario, especially with the weather. In the last stint, I suffered from a vibration on the front-left tire, which really cost me time, and that’s why I went to the pits for an unplanned third stop. I would like to thank the whole team for this brilliant season, with special credit to my mechanics. I am really proud of my record of 19 finishes in 19 races, and it is the result of a fantastic team effort. »
