Pérez confident about his presence in F1 in 2014
Sergio Pérez does not yet know what his future in F1 holds, but the Mexican has shown himself to be rather confident about his chances of continuing in Formula 1 in 2014.
Sergio Pérez will no longer drive for McLaren next season, with Kevin Magnussen being preferred. But while the Mexican had expressed his disappointment with this late decision that complicated his chances of being in F1 in 2014, he now seems to have regained his smile.
Interviewed in the Interlagos paddock about the percentage chance of him continuing in F1 in 2014, Pérez answered: « 95% that I will stay in F1 next season – but the remaining 5% is always the most complicated. From my point of view, I am convinced that I will race in 2014. »
Force India and Sauber seem to be the favored options, but nothing is set for the moment: « There aren’t only those. There are a number of options and that’s all I can say: at the moment, it seems better than it did a week ago. So I am looking toward the future more positively. Yes, it seems good. »
Lotus could also be an option for Pérez, who would therefore be in the running for a seat at Lotus, Sauber, and Sahara Force India, but he is not the only one, as at least Pastor Maldonado and Nico Hülkenberg are in the same situation as the Mexican.
Pérez also reflected on his season with McLaren and even though things were complicated, he prefers to focus only on the positives: « Personally, I learned a lot and I have to say that McLaren made me a better driver – and I have to thank them for that. »
