Sunday: Grosjean delivers a podium and major points to Lotus
Thanks to a good start and strong defense, Romain Grosjean managed to get ahead of Mark Webber's Red Bull to finish in 2nd place in the United States Grand Prix held in Austin. The Frenchman is delighted with his performance. On the other side of the garage, Heikki Kovalainen encountered several issues that caused him to drop in the standings and finish out of the points.
Romain Grosjean – 2nd:
« It was really a tough race. I probably had to deliver one of my best drives to keep Mark [Webber] behind, and it’s a great feeling to have outpaced at least one of the bulls in Texas as they clearly had the fastest package today. We knew a good start would be key, so gaining a position at the first corner was very important and the car was fantastic from there. The whole team here and in Enstone is doing a fantastic job. Every day, I see them working hard together to keep us at the forefront, and when you look at the gap with our closest rivals, it’s clear that we are the second-best team after Red Bull now. I think this place must bring me luck; last year at the same time, I found out my wife was pregnant and today, I matched my best Formula 1 result? so I can’t wait to come back again and see what happens next year! »
Heikki Kovalainen – 14th:
My start wasn’t good, but everything was fine until my first stop because I was fighting in the pack and the car was pretty good. After the stop, I started to encounter some problems, but it was difficult to know exactly what was going on. We had downforce issues, so we changed the front wing and then it was much better, although not as good as earlier in the weekend. There was also a KERS problem, but not enough to be the cause of my lack of pace in the race. We will have to analyze the data and hope that we will have solved this for the race in Brazil.
