Sunday: Sauber scores big points again
Nico Hülkenberg scored big points again, with a 6th place, right behind Fernando Alonso. Esteban Gutiérrez's race was compromised by his 20th place on the grid. His alternate strategy did not allow him to make up for it. He even collided with Jean-Eric Vergne on the last lap, finishing 14th.
Nico Hülkenberg – 6th:
« Another very solid result. If I’m not mistaken, since Monza, it would have been our eighth consecutive race in the points, without the brake failure in India and the penalty in Abu Dhabi. It’s an impressive statistic. It was an interesting race. I didn’t have to fight much, except at the end with Fernando [Alonso], which was quite fun. Unfortunately, in the crucial part of the race, about 10/15 laps before the end, we didn’t have the pace of Fernando. So he was able to overtake me. In the last lap, approaching the first corner, I overtook him but missed the apex and he was able to re-pass me on the exit. But we finished a few seconds behind our competitors. I think it was a good weekend, with the gain of eight good points. »
Esteban Gutiérrez – 14th:
« It was a very difficult race starting from 20th. We had to overtake many places on the track. I managed to have a good first lap. I gained a few places but when the safety car was deployed, we decided to stop to put me on a different strategy from the other cars. We now need to analyze the situation and see how we can learn from this. I think all the problems stem from our ten-place penalty, which complicated everything in the end. »
