Saturday: The Toro Rosso drivers stop short of Q3

Daniel Ricciardo – 17th and 11th:

« Honestly, when I crossed the line, my engineer spoke to me on the radio to tell me I was 9th and I thought it would be enough, but a few corners later, I had eventually dropped back to 11th place. So I was a bit disappointed, even though I think I got the maximum out of what I had. We had an intense morning, after my off-track excursion, I had damaged my car on Friday, which meant we hadn’t done any long stints. So we tried to do that today and as a result, we had to slightly overlook our work on the shorter stints. We still did a good job in qualifying and being 11th, I have the choice of tires for the start, even though I know some in the top 10 decided to do their last stint on mediums. »

Jean-Eric Vergne – 15th and 14th:

« I can be quite happy with my fast lap, as it was clear, even though I lost a bit of time on a curb, but nothing too serious. It was very tight in our part of the field and we did good work last night and this morning to improve the car and there are only a few tenths between us in this big group. I think that tomorrow in the race, with the softs not lasting very long, there will be many possible choices for strategy and I am convinced we will fight for points. »
