Sunday: the Marussia team had to manage their tires
If Jules Bianchi hoped to fight with the Caterhams after qualifying, he was forced to manage his tires for most of the race. Therefore, he only beat his teammate, Max Chilton.
Jules Bianchi – 16th
I was hoping to fight with the Caterhams today. Despite my penalty, I was in a good position after the first corners of the first lap. It didn’t take long before we concentrated our efforts on tire management, and our first two stints almost prevented us from attacking. In the third stint, when we had less to lose, we were able to try more, but it wasn’t enough to regain a place from them. We have a difficult job ahead of us for the next five races, and it will require all our attention and concentration, but we know what we have to do, and everyone is working hard on it. I thank the team because it’s not just difficult in the cockpit!
Max Chilton – 17th
« In general, it’s a good team result. I think we were lacking a bit in terms of race pace, but we weren’t really able to attack because we had to be careful with our tires during each stint. The first lap melee set me back, but I quickly caught up with Jules, and the two safety cars meant we never had to worry about blue flags. We are much closer to the Caterhams. We know it, but we need to convert it into race performance to make things a bit more comfortable for us. »
