Pirelli chooses its tires for South Korea, Japan, and India
Here are the tire specifications selected by Pirelli for the three races after the Singapore GP.
The Italian manufacturer has revealed the tire specifications for the three races following the Singapore GP. As for next Sunday, the mediums and super-softs will be used in South Korea (October 6), on a track known for being scarcely rubbered in, since F1 is the only major championship using this track. Since the first GP in 2010, drivers have regularly complained about the lack of grip on Friday, with the track improving as the weekend progresses.
For Japan (October 13), the hard and medium tires were chosen for this track, known for being demanding on the tires. The S curves in the first sector and especially the large, fast bends such as Dunlop, turn 12, Spoon, and the legendary 130R put a strain on the tires. Pirelli has therefore accordingly selected its hardest and hence most durable range.
Finally, for the Indian GP (October 27), drivers will have mediums and softs available. Just like in Korea, the dusty track (especially on Friday) and the various combinations of the second and third sectors require tires that mix endurance and performance.
The regulations stipulate that teams receive six sets of the hardest compound and five sets of the softest compound available over a weekend, under normal circumstances. Pirelli will also bring its Cinturato Green intermediate sets (4 per driver) and the Cinturato Blue wet compound (3 per driver) to each race.
