Saturday: The Williams still behind
Even though Pastor Maldonado managed to qualify for Q2 this afternoon at Monza, the Venezuelan driver was hoping for more than 15th place. Valtteri Bottas, on the other hand, did not expect to be eliminated as early as Q1. However, both Williams drivers remain confident for tomorrow's race.
Pastor Maldonado – 9th and 15th:
« We were penalized when we had to stop for the weighing during Q2 which meant we couldn’t do the additional laps we had planned. We could have been closer to the top 10 because it seemed better. Even during qualifying, the car seemed good but unfortunately, that was all we could do today. »
Valtteri Bottas – 15th and 18th:
« On my fastest laps with the mediums in qualifying, I had a clear lap without error and thought it would be enough to get into Q2, but the time wasn’t there. We need to look at the data tonight because it seemed better than the final time. Our race pace looks good for tomorrow and there are opportunities to overtake, so I think we can have a good race. »
