Vettel praises the Hamilton/Rosberg duo
Sebastian Vettel believes that the Mercedes team has the best driver duo this season with Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg in its ranks.
Since joining the Red Bull Racing team in 2009, Sebastian Vettel has teamed up with Mark Webber. The two finished in 2nd place in the Constructors’ Championship during their first year of partnership and then went on to secure three Constructors’ titles and are on track to clinch a fourth consecutive one this year.
But for Vettel, his association with his Australian elder has not always been good, and the German even believes that despite excellent results, the best pair is the one formed by Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg, as he told Bild: « [The best duo this year?] Hamilton and Rosberg. They attack and combine very well together. »
The two Mercedes drivers have secured eight pole positions and three wins in eleven Grand Prix this year and are currently in 3rd place in the drivers’ championship for Hamilton and 6th for Nico Rosberg. In the constructors’ standings, their partnership allows the German team to be in 2nd place, 77 points behind Red Bull nonetheless.
Despite these comments that might be seen as an attack on his teammate, Sebastian Vettel was keen to point out that his relationship with Mark Webber was not bad, but simply professional.
When asked if he had a preference for his teammate next year, the German driver responded that it didn’t matter much and that regardless of who would be by his side, he would try to beat him as well as the rest of the field: « As a fan, maybe I’m interested. But in the end, I will always want to finish ahead of the others – no matter if they are in a red, black single-seater, or even the same color. »
