Kovalainen will drive for Caterham during Free Practice 1 at Spa and Monza

The Caterham team announced that its reserve driver, Heikki Kovalainen, will take the wheel of the CT03 during the first free practice sessions of the Belgian and Italian Grand Prix. The former Malaysian team’s driver has already driven in two free practice sessions this year, in Bahrain and Spain.

The Finnish driver will take Charles Pic’s place tomorrow for the first free practice session of the Belgian Grand Prix held at Spa-Francorchamps before taking Giedo van der Garde’s place during the first free practice session of the Italian Grand Prix at Monza in two weeks, as revealed by the Caterham team on their Twitter feed today.

Kovalainen will bring his experience – having competed in 109 Grand Prix for Renault, McLaren, Team Lotus, and Caterham – to help his team continue to move forward and maintain their efforts for 2014 in an attempt to close the gap with mid-field teams such as Williams, Sauber, Toro Rosso, and Force India.
