Sirotkin will drive an F1 car during a demonstration in Sochi
Sergey Sirotkin went to the Sauber team's factory in Hinwill this week, particularly to learn how an F1 car operates and to mold a seat in preparation for a demonstration he will perform in September in Sochi.
Sergey Sirotkin visited the Sauber team this week. The Russian driver went to Hinwill in Switzerland for two days. He met with engineers, learned to use the steering wheel of the Sauber F1, and molded a seat for a demonstration planned for September.
The young Russian, who will turn 18 in 4 days, expressed his delight over these two days in a statement released by the Swiss team: “My visit to the Sauber F1 team’s headquarters was very busy. I learned a lot about the team and many other things. I molded my seat, met the engineers, and learned about the car and what happens during a race weekend. I also had a lesson on the steering wheel. I’m happy because if you had told me six months ago that I would visit this factory and meet this team, I would never have believed you. It’s great. The dream is so close to becoming reality now.”
Sirotkin, who may be appointed as a full-time driver next season at Sauber, will have the opportunity to take the wheel of a Formula 1 car on September 27th during a demonstration organized in Sochi – the host city of the 2014 Winter Olympics as well as the Russian Grand Prix of Formula 1 starting in 2014.
« We are proud to perform a demonstration next month. It will be a historic moment when a Russian driver drivers a Formula 1 car for the first time on the Sochi circuit, » said Monisha Kaltenborn, the head of the Sauber team.
