Ecclestone wants to help Nasr reach F1
Felipe Nasr seems to be the Brazilian driver best positioned to enter F1, and he hopes this will happen as early as next season, with the support of a certain Bernie Ecclestone.
Felipe Nasr has been cited for some time as the future Brazilian star in Formula 1. The Brasilia native went through karting, Formula BMW, Formula 3, and GP2. In these three categories, he consistently had a good first year to learn followed by a convincing second year where he claimed the title.
After an encouraging start in GP2 last season with the French team DAMS, Nasr moved to Carlin this season and with four meetings left in the season, he is in contention for the title with Stefano Coletti and Fabio Leimer, among others. The story could therefore repeat itself, with a year of learning followed by a title and a move to the higher category.
This time, the top category will be Formula 1, a championship where more than talent is needed to succeed, but the Brazilian can count on significant support from Bernie Ecclestone. At least that’s what Livio Orrichio, the correspondent for the Brazilian newspaper O Estado de S. Paulo, believes.
According to Orrichio, Nasr could start in Formula 1 next season with the help of Ecclestone, who wants to see Brazil represented in F1, and with Felipe Massa regularly being pushed towards the exit, Brazil could lose its only F1 driver.
« I am here. Whenever you need advice, you can come to see me. I need a Brazilian driver, » Ecclestone reportedly told Felipe Nasr according to Globo. The Briton also reportedly said that Nasr was being monitored by several F1 teams: « I have talked about him several times and people are really impressed by the way he has developed in recent years. »
Nasr, for his part, remains cautious and knows he will have to work in all areas to achieve his dream: The dream of reaching the pinnacle of global motorsport is close but not easy. It depends on good results and financial support. But with the backing of companies like Banco do Brasil and OGX in recent years, it could tip the scales in favor of the Brazilian.
