Hungary renews its contract until 2021

Hungary is one of the few dates on the calendar that is rarely troubled regarding its contract extension. The country benefits from a significant historical context as F1 arrived in Budapest before the fall of the Iron Curtain. It was the first “Western” competition to do so.

Since then, all parties involved have found their satisfaction. The Hungaroring is thus the third circuit, after Monza and Monaco, to have been on the F1 calendar consecutively for such a long time. This will continue thanks to the new extension, signed with the Minister of National Development, Zsuzsanna Nemeth. The F1’s chief financial officer stated to Sky Sports F1: “It is an extension of what we have until 2021. The general atmosphere here is good. It’s old-fashioned and we will see the same thing in Austria.”

He thus refers to the scheduled return of Austria as early as next season, after an absence of eleven years.
