Sunday: It was too hot for Toro Rosso
Disappointment at Toro Rosso, which was unable to finish in the points due to a car hampered by the high temperatures of the Hungarian circuit. Jean-Eric Vergne still managed to finish just ahead of his teammate, Daniel Ricciardo, but his 12th place doesn't earn him any points.
Jean-Eric Vergne – 12th:
« A difficult race after we saw yesterday, especially with Daniel, that the car has good pace but, in the race, we struggled and couldn’t fight with our usual rivals. I did what I could after a bad start, which meant I had to fight my way back to where I was. Beating my teammate? It doesn’t mean anything, especially when we are outside the points. I’d rather finish behind him in the points. The holidays will start soon but I remain focused on racing and will train a lot to be in good physical shape for a strong second half of the season. We still have a week ahead of us, where, with the engineers, we still have a lot of work to do. »
Daniel Ricciardo – 13th:
« From the start, it was clear that we were not fast enough. I tried to keep my position as long as possible, but we were much too slow. I did my best to maintain a good pace and conserve my tires, but today, it wasn’t enough to hope for points. We managed to extract a bit more from the car during yesterday’s qualifying, but it’s hard to replicate that over 70 laps. We also struggled at the Nürburgring. The heat plays a role, therefore. We couldn’t fight with our rivals today because we lacked speed when we were loaded with fuel, which is the opposite of what we had with last year’s car. »
