Sunday: Bloody Sunday for Sauber

Black weekend for the Sauber team, which leaves Montreal empty-handed. Despite a good position on the grid (9th), Nico Hülkenberg had to retire following a collision with Giedo van Der Garde. Gutiérrez, on the other hand, saw his race end in the tire wall at the first hairpin.

Sunday: Bloody Sunday for Sauber

Esteban Gutiérrez – 20th:

The car was difficult to drive throughout the race, and I was constantly pushing to the limit. With the first set of tires, it was really hard to drive, but a one-stop strategy was impossible. When I came back from my second stop, I went over the curbs, the front locked up, and I couldn’t stop.

Nico Hülkenberg – Retirement:

« It’s disappointing to end a weekend like this. Overtaking backmarkers can sometimes be problematic, but these guys are racing too. I was overtaking Van Der Garde at the braking point. I didn’t feel anything at first until I came out of the corner and realized something was wrong with the car, so we decided to pit. But even after I lost positions at the start of the race, we didn’t have the pace. I was fighting for 14th place and couldn’t do much better. Obviously, it’s not the best way to finish a race, but in the end, we wouldn’t have gained much more. »
