Renault Sport announced a press conference this morning at 10 AM with the presence of Carlos Ghosn and Jean-Michel Jalinier, president of Renault Sport. The purpose of the conference was to announce the engine supply for Red Bull and Toro Rosso by Renault Sport.
« The reigning world champion team renews and also brings Toro Rosso with them, so it’s very good news. » congratulates Carlos Ghosn, President of the Renault-Nissan Group.
« There are many engine changes next year and this renewal is proof of the confidence they have in Renault. » he continues.
« We are delighted to reach an agreement to use the Renault Power Unit starting in 2014, at a time when new regulations will bring interesting changes. It is particularly important to have succeeded in finalizing our plans early, which means we will be as well prepared as possible for next year. While looking forward to working with Renault, I would also like to thank Ferrari, our supplier since 2007. They have provided us with an extremely efficient and reliable engine, as well as excellent service. » says Franz Tost, team principal of Toro Rosso. On his side, Christian Horner believes he can benefit from new synergies: « From a strategic point of view, for Red Bull as well as for Renault, it makes a lot of sense for Scuderia Toro Rosso to use the same power unit as Infiniti Red Bull Racing starting in 2014. This will allow for further development of synergies between Red Bull and Renault. »
In the press release, Bernie Ecclestone, who met Carlos Ghosn this week, expressed delight at this partnership: « I am thrilled to see this agreement finalized. Renault’s contribution to the sport, as well as its continued support to multiple teams, is important to maintain a diversified lineup in the coming years. »
Carlos Ghosn also specified that Red Bull will continue to be powered by Renault, even if Infiniti will be present on the Red Bull single-seater as it is today.
For now, nothing has been announced about the future of Renault within the Caterham and Williams teams, which are already powered by the French manufacturer. Carlos Ghosn explains that he is not worried about signing a third team. We need at least three teams, but we are not against powering four teams. […] If some teams choose to change their engine supplier, it is their decision; we have just welcomed Toro Rosso who also had to make a decision, so we will see about our other partners.
