Saturday: Qualifications to Forget for Marussia
Very difficult qualifications for Marussia: Jules Bianchi, the local of the event, couldn't complete a single lap due to a fire starting on his car. He will therefore start in 21st place. As for Max Chilton, he used the best of his tires too early during the session, leaving him no chance to do better than 20th.
Max Chilton – 22nd and 20th:
« After a good start on Thursday, today was a very difficult day with the very challenging conditions we had in qualifying. Obviously, I was aiming for a better position on the grid since it is essential in Monaco. I think I got the best out of the tires a little too early, and they weren’t there anymore when the track dried up a bit. It’s disappointing since it will be a long race tomorrow. The weather looks good. After a clean first lap, I will try to do my best to seize any opportunities that come my way. »
Jules Bianchi – 21st and Non-qualified [21st on the grid]:
« Of course, I hoped to have a good performance for my home race. So it’s very disappointing to retire so early and not take part in the session. The team is not entirely sure of the real cause of the problem yet, but it is clear that I wouldn’t have been able to complete a single lap. That’s why they asked me to pull over. We have to wait and see what happens. I think it could be a very interesting race for everyone. Things haven’t been easy for everyone in the field. So we must stay focused and see what happens to do the best possible job in these challenging conditions. »
