Saturday: Sauber could have done better

Nico Hülkenberg – 10th and 11th:

« This was a very interesting qualifying session. Q3 was within reach since I was six-tenths ahead. But we changed to the super softs too late. So we only had one timed lap, which was a missed opportunity. However, in changing conditions like here in Monaco, we can consider ourselves lucky to have avoided problems. 11th is just outside the top 10. We can therefore choose our strategy as we wish, which is rather a good thing. So I just need to get a good start, gain one or two positions, and avoid issues at the first corner. After that, one of the toughest races awaits us. But I’m looking forward to it because Monaco has its own rules. That’s why, in the end, we love it so much. »

Esteban Gutierrez – 17th and 19th:

« It was a very disappointing qualifying because we didn’t seem to be in trouble. But our pace on intermediates was simply not good enough. I wasn’t able to find more time. I just couldn’t find enough grip. It’s going to be a tough race tomorrow because it’s very hard to overtake in Monaco. But we will do our best. Hopefully, the strategy will allow us to get out of the traffic. »
