Saturday: Toro Rosso aims for points
Mixed feelings at Toro Rosso: Jean-Eric Vergne crossed the Q3 threshold for the first time this season and finished 10th. This is not the case for Daniel Ricciardo, who could not do better than 12th. However, both drivers are aiming for points at the end of the race.
Jean-Eric Vergne – 13th and 10th:
It feels good to make my first Q3 of the season, even if I would have preferred it to keep raining until the end. But even on the dry, I managed to do a good lap but stopped my very last lap because I wasn’t able to improve. I think our race performance tomorrow will be better than today. So we’re hoping for a good result, whatever the weather. Anything can happen on this track. So we can clearly hope for points tomorrow. It’s nice to be in Q3, but it doesn’t earn points. So we need to focus and deliver a strong performance.
Daniel Ricciardo – 14th and 12th:
« I am disappointed because I think we missed an opportunity. I really wanted to go into Q3 and with the mixed conditions, we had a good opportunity. But we weren’t fast enough on intermediates. After that, I think we could have done better on the super softs if we had one more lap to get the tires up to temperature. So we still have work to do by tomorrow. I think this car has a good pace in the long run, certainly better than in qualifying. But since it’s difficult to overtake here, starting 12th is not ideal. We must therefore find a good strategy to make up for this afternoon. »
