Jules Bianchi ended today’s qualifying session on his first lap. Indeed, just after getting on the track, on a wet track, the Marussia began to overheat more than expected, causing a fire to start and forcing the French driver to abandon at the side of the track.
For now, the cause is not yet clarified, Bianchi explains: « We are still trying to find out what the problem is. We don’t know what triggered the fire; the temperature sensors went haywire and the engine and the rear of the car were quite damaged. »
The morale of the Nice pilot, who is almost racing at home, has been affected. Jules Bianchi indeed hoped to stand out in these conditions where the wet track could rebalance the performance of the single-seaters: « Very frustrated because with a qualification like that and in these conditions we could have achieved a good result, I think, but well… » he explains, disappointed.
