Sunday: Ricciardo brings a point to Toro Rosso

After a good qualifying session yesterday for the two Toro Rosso drivers, they seemed confident for the race. However, technical problems and a collision in the pits forced Jean-Eric Vergne to retire. Ricciardo, disappointed, still managed to bring a point back to his team.

Sunday: Ricciardo brings a point to Toro Rosso

Daniel Ricciardo – 10th: « I got off to a very bad start, with a lot of wheel spin and, to be honest, the first laps of the race, I really struggled with front grip and front locking. I tried to be patient and eventually it got better and I could see the cars in front of me that hadn’t gotten too far away. It’s disappointing to lose ground like that, but the pace itself wasn’t too bad. At the first stop, we made some changes to the wing settings and tire pressures that helped us, so the next two stints were pretty good and I made some overtakes, so it certainly wasn’t a boring race. But, towards the end of the race, our pace started to fade again. It wasn’t easy to get tenth place, even though we were on track to get more than just one point earlier in the race, so it’s better than nothing. »

Jean-Eric Vergne – Retirement: « After a good start, I then had a lot of understeer and we had to keep adding a lot of wing at each pit stop, which didn’t really help. The strategy we adopted is the right one, and even with the damaged car floor and wing, I was able to set good times. Once again, I was unlucky and I hope it will stop soon because when I was arriving at the pits, Sauber made a dangerous release with Hülkenberg who crashed into me and then I had an issue with a tire, so it was one problem after another today. I intend to have a better weekend in Monaco in two weeks. I have not lost hope for the future, given the performance we showed earlier in the weekend. It’s just a shame that the pace was good and it would have allowed me to score points today. »
