Saturday: Lack of speed at Sauber
At the end of a difficult qualifying session for Sauber drivers, Hülkenberg and Gutierrez agreed that their car was severely lacking in speed. Hülkenberg, satisfied with his performance in Q2, posted the 15th fastest time, followed by Gutierrez in 16th.
Nico Hülkenberg – 16th and 15th:
The qualifications went as expected today. It’s disappointing because we are simply too slow. The updates this weekend were a step in the right direction, and the car settings in qualifications were good, but not as good as other teams that improved even more. I am very satisfied with my lap in Q2, it was the perfect lap. We used mediums twice to try to get a better position on the grid, but in the end, it wasn’t enough because we lacked pace. However, I think we can be satisfied with what we did, but we simply need to find more speed.
Esteban Gutierrez – 13th and 16th [19th on the grid] :
« Qualification today was difficult. Yesterday and this morning in FP3 I felt quite confident and the laps seemed good. Overall, I think the settings are a good step forward. I could have had more speed with the last set of tires, but it’s a tricky situation when you’re driving on the limit and I tried to make the most of what we had. I’m not satisfied because I want to be further ahead. We just need to keep pushing for more speed. »
