Sunday: Both Mercedes drivers in the points
The weekend seemed promising for Nico Rosberg who started from pole position. However, the Mercedes driver only managed to secure the points for 9th place, suffering from tire issues. Hamilton, who started from 9th place due to a gearbox change penalty, is satisfied to finish in 5th place.
Lewis Hamilton – 5th
I’m really happy with our result today. It has been a difficult weekend for us, but finishing in fifth place was a good way to limit the damage. My race didn’t start well. I was taking care of the tires, but I really struggled in the first two stints. I really enjoyed battling with Mark at the end. We really needed that point, and I was really determined to get it. It was a good race, very clean. I am very proud of what we’ve accomplished over the first four races, and being third in the drivers’ championship is beyond our expectations. However, we must continue to push and find more performance, which will help us close the gap.
Nico Rosberg – 9th
« It was a difficult day for me. As much as it was great to start in pole this afternoon, it was just as hard to finish in ninth place. I didn’t feel comfortable in the car today and it wasn’t very fun. We switched to a four-stop strategy at the end of my third stint, but it wasn’t enough. We overused the rear tires and in the end, I really struggled and couldn’t push hard enough. There’s a lot of work to do, and we need to focus on why our race performance doesn’t match what we can show in qualifying. I hope we can make some improvements before the European season starts. »
