Webber would like to add Melbourne to his list of achievements
Less than a week before the first GP of the season in Melbourne, Webber spoke to an Australian TV channel, stating that he would like to win this race for the first time in his career, even though it won't be easy.
Mark Webber, who has never finished on the podium at Albert Park, is convinced that he can have a good weekend at his home race in Australia. He hopes not to disappoint his fans, who are always delighted to host such a major event in their country. It was last year, with Red Bull, that he achieved his best performance by finishing 4th, which gives him hope to do better next Sunday.
« I have stood on the podium at most of the circuits I’ve raced on and have won several times on many different tracks, and I would like to add Melbourne to my record. I really enjoy the Albert Park layout; the atmosphere there is fantastic. Obviously, I want to get a good result this year. The champagne will have a special taste in Melbourne if I manage to get on the podium. », Webber said.
The Australian stated that he believed Red Bull Racing will certainly be back in the race for points following the pre-season tests, which he deemed satisfactory: « I was very quick with times similar to those of the other drivers, so it went well. I am just eager to get in the car and drive. Testing is fine, but we just want to win races now. »
However, he remains realistic about his chances of beating his teammate, three-time F1 world champion, Sebastian Vettel will be very strong again: « Seb will absolutely be a contender for victory in Australia. We know it. It’s quite obvious given the way he has driven. But there is no reason why I can’t have a good weekend too, and that’s what we have seen with the tests so far. » added Webber.
The dean of the drivers, who does not yet think about retirement, plans to give his maximum this season: « You always have to keep practicing, especially if you’re aiming for the podium in F1, and it won’t be different this year. So, I’m going to go out there and enjoy all my races this season, but obviously with an iron will to not let any opportunity slip by and to continue doing well. »
