Xevi Pujolar becomes chief race engineer at Williams
Williams modifies its technical organization for the 2013 season, with the creation of the position of chief race engineer, which will be occupied by a former team member, Xevi Pujolar.
Faced with the departures of Toto Wolff at Mercedes, and Mark Gillan, Williams is forced to revise its technical organization chart: Xevi Pujolar becomes chief race engineer.
The Spaniard has an excellent understanding of Sir Frank’s team thanks to his long experience within it. He joined in 2003 and has been with the team continuously, except in 2010, when he was a race engineer at the now-defunct HRT. A tailor-made position has been created for him, as it did not exist before. This helps to partially compensate for the departure of Mark Gillan, who had been in charge of operations during race weekends since 2011.
He will be replaced in his previous position as race engineer for Pastor Maldonado by Andrew Murdoch. He knows the Venezuelan driver’s operations well since he was his performance engineer in 2012. They experienced the joys of victory together at the Spanish Grand Prix.
The second race engineer, Valtteri Bottas’s, will now be Jonathan Eddolls. He joined the team in 2003 as part of the graduate program established by the team. Last year, he became the performance engineer on Bruno Senna’s car. However, he was the one who occupied the role of race engineer during the practice sessions run by Valtteri Bottas when he was just the third driver. Given the quick development of a complementary relationship between the two men, he has been promoted to full-time race engineer.
