The FIA sent a draft 2013 calendar to the teams

The FIA has sent the twelve teams registered for the Formula 1 World Championship a draft calendar for the 2013 season. The only change for now, already known, is the disappearance of the European Grand Prix in Valencia and its replacement by the Grand Prix of America, held in the suburbs of New York.

The FIA sent a draft 2013 calendar to the teams

On the sidelines of the Singapore Grand Prix, the FIA informed the teams of the content of a provisional schedule for the next season, of which our colleagues at PitPass.com obtained a copy. Like this year, the season is expected to use a “marathon” format, with 20 races extending from mid-March to late November, starting in Melbourne and ending in Interlagos, with a long 5-week summer break in August.

With the adoption of such a calendar, the only change compared to the current season would be the disappearance of the European Grand Prix held in Valencia, which is facing financial difficulties and is seeking to establish an alternation with the Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona. It would be replaced by a second race held in the United States, in the suburbs of New York. This would be the first time since 1984 that the United States would host two races in the same year.

This Grand Prix – automobile – of America is still provisional according to the FIA, as work is still ongoing, preventing a thorough inspection of the facilities. This is also the case for the Singapore and Korea Grand Prix, but because their contracts are not yet finalized. It is also worth noting the presence of the Bahrain Grand Prix, which was canceled in 2011 and whose 2012 event generated much discussion, and the continuation of the German Grand Prix at Hockenheim, marking the end of the alternation with the Nürburgring.

This calendar will need to be ratified at the next meeting of the World Motor Sport Council, which will take place in the coming weeks.
