PURE is not an option for McLaren
The McLaren team was keen to deny the rumors that its cars could be powered by a PURE Turbo V6 engine starting from 2014.
The Italian daily La Gazzetta dello Sport recently mentioned the possibility of seeing the McLaren team being powered by PURE from 2014 with the arrival of the V6 Turbo. However, the British team currently has a Mercedes V8 and has a contract – amounting to 8 million euros per season – for the supply of a V6 Turbo for 2014 and 2015.
McLaren does not appear to be interested in the engine developed by the company Pure, at least that’s what a team spokesperson explained.
«McLaren has had absolutely no contact with Pure for months, » a McLaren spokesperson told Reuters.
He also disclosed that McLaren did indeed establish contact with Pure a few months ago, but it was only to get in touch with the company and to inquire about what it might offer.
Furthermore, the contact we had with Pure several months ago was entirely informal in nature and was merely a gesture of courtesy, the spokesperson specifies.
Honda was also mentioned as a possible replacement for Mercedes, but the information was also denied by the Woking team. Jonathan Neale, the sporting director of the McLaren team, recently stated that the team was completely focused on its relationship with Mercedes.
