Massa says he has nothing against Hamilton

This is the sixth time this season that Felipe Massa and Lewis Hamilton have competed against each other in a race until their cars collided. This time, it is the Brazilian driver from Scuderia Ferrari who was found at fault by the race stewards, as Massa received a drive-through penalty after making contact with Hamilton.

« I have nothing against Hamilton. Nothing at all. If I ran into him, I would tell him exactly the same thing as I’m telling you now, » Massa said after the race.

About the penalty he received, the Paulist stated: « I don’t understand why I was penalized. I braked later than him, I was in front of him and on the grippiest part of the track and I didn’t see him on my left. He was behind and he hit my rear wheel. Whether it’s Lewis or someone else doesn’t change anything ».

To the question of whether he knew Hamilton was beside him or not during the overtaking, Massa responded affirmatively: « I knew he was beside me. I braked later than him and then, was I supposed to let him pass? He was on the dirty side of the track, I took the turn, and he hit me from behind. If we had been wheel to wheel, I wouldn’t have turned ».

The Brazilian even added: « Every time, he’s the one who touches me. I haven’t done anything that could be blamed on me ».

For his part, Lewis Hamilton also spoke: « There’s not much to say. It’s a disappointing day. My team, as always, worked hard throughout the weekend. I don’t see anything else to add ».

Regarding the incident with Felipe Massa, the Briton declared: During the race, I tried to overtake him, then I changed my mind because I saw that he wasn’t leaving me any space, but we collided, adding: I am really sorry for the team.

However, things seemed to be improving between the two drivers, who exchanged a few words before the start: “We were close during the minute of silence that preceded the race. We hadn’t spoken in a while, so I put my arm around him and simply wished him good luck,” added Lewis Hamilton.

Let’s hope that the two drivers, who don’t hold a grudge against each other but have differing opinions about the incident at the Indian Grand Prix, will continue to respect each other as all great drivers should.
