Saturday: Mixed Feelings at Mercedes GP

At the end of the qualifying session for the Indian Grand Prix at the Buddh circuit, drivers Nico Rosberg and Michael Schumacher are ranked 7th and 12th on the starting grid, respectively. Not much progress compared to the third free practice session, even though Mercedes GP hoped for better from these qualifications...

Saturday: Mixed Feelings at Mercedes GP

Nico Rosberg, 8th and 7th:

« I am happy because we made a step forward today, but perhaps we could have done even better. In Q1, I unfortunately hit a curb which damaged the floor of the car and deprived us of a bit more downforce for the rest of the session. My fastest lap came at the end of Q3 but unfortunately, I had to slow down following the yellow flag after Felipe’s crash. I plan to push hard tomorrow to gain positions and I hope to have a good race on this fantastic track. I think the race will be exciting and the Indian people can be proud to now have one of the most beautiful circuits in motorsport! »

Michael Schumacher, 11th and 12th:

« Today’s qualifying session was not very good for us. I was first disturbed by the traffic, and during my last fast lap in Q2, I felt vibrations in the tires, which didn’t help me. But that doesn’t explain the time gap compared to Nico, and we need to understand the reasons. As for tomorrow’s race, I think it will be better for me, and my goal is to score points. I don’t know which part of the track is best for the start, but I’ll do everything I can to have a good race. »

Ross Brawn, Team Principal:

« It was an intense and exciting session today. We weren’t helped by the traffic on some occasions. I regret that Michael didn’t reach Q3, but his last set of tires didn’t suit him. Nico did a good job, especially considering how much he was struggling with the car yesterday, so all credit goes to the team and Nico. Our performances so far have been encouraging, so we hope to perform well tomorrow on this impressive and new track. »
