Sunday: Disappointment for Scuderia Toro Rosso
The Japanese Grand Prix is one to forget for the small Italian team Toro Rosso, which will leave Suzuka without scoring any points: Jaime Alguersuari finished 15th in the race while Sebastien Buemi was forced to retire due to a wheel nut issue...
Jaime Alguersuari – 15th:
I had more or less the same strategy as Pérez, yet he seemed a second per lap faster than me. It wasn’t possible for me to do more, as I reached the limits of my engine and therefore didn’t have the necessary resources to overtake. Additionally, I didn’t have enough downforce when I was behind competitors. I can’t remember the last time it seemed so difficult for me to overtake during a race. I always give my best, but today the performance wasn’t there. Now I hope to be able to fight better in Korea against Sauber to score points.
Sebastien Buemi – Withdrawal:
« I had a very good start, overtaking five cars and gaining 11th place. I was even in tenth for a few laps before my pit stop. Back on track, at the first turn, I felt vibrations and saw my right front wheel starting to move. I’m not really sure what caused it, but it ended my race. It’s a shame, because I know we could have had a good race and scored points. »
Franz Tost – Team Principal:
« First of all, on behalf of everyone at Toro Rosso, I would like to congratulate Sebastian Vettel and Red Bull Racing for this second consecutive driver’s title. Our weekend started well with an encouraging Friday, but things became more difficult afterward. Sebastien had to retire early in the race when his right wheel failed. We are still investigating the reasons. It’s a shame because his start was very good, overtaking five cars. Jaime lost three places on the first lap, and it was difficult for him to progress afterward. But our improvements are encouraging, and we hope to make the best use of them in Korea. »
