Sunday: Alonso and Ferrari Just Miss the Podium

Fernando Alonso – 4th:

« It was difficult to do better today than a fourth place, particularly given our struggles with the medium tires. In these conditions, we are a second and a half behind the best. Honestly, I didn’t think we had a real chance of winning, but a podium was within our possibilities. In the end, we might have had to fight harder. Otherwise, I had fun, the start was good, and there were some great duels. But it’s a shame about the podium, which was our objective. I think we can congratulate our opponents who are doing a very good job, but we won’t give up as long as we have mathematical chances. We will fight and try to win in Monza for our fans, as well as the other races of the season. »

Felipe Massa – 8th:

« Today was a strange race for me. At the beginning, I was fighting for the top positions, but then I started having problems with the tires, and the car lost its balance. The situation improved with the medium tires and with a front wing adjustment during the pit stop, but it wasn’t enough in terms of our speed. On top of that, an issue with the left rear tire forced me to make another stop. When I found myself behind Rosberg, I couldn’t overtake despite the DRS because his top speed was better. I tried to fight in the slower corners, at the last chicane, and at La Source, but it wasn’t successful. The next race is a home race for the team; I hope to achieve a good result there.

Stefano Domenicali – Team Principal:

« We cannot say we are happy with such a result, but we must remain objective. The car behaved very differently with the two types of tires, very well with the softs, especially for Fernando, but leaving much to be desired with the medium tires. This explains Fernando’s performance at the beginning of the race, which then deteriorated, which worked against us. As for Felipe, his start to the race was aggressive, but he paid a high price due to our tire-related issues. »
