Saturday: Mixed results for Ferrari
As Felipe Massa and Fernando Alonso will start in fourth and eighth positions respectively on the grid for the Belgian Grand Prix, the reactions are quite mixed on the Scuderia's side...
Felipe Massa – 23rd and 4th:
At the beginning of the session, when the rain arrived, I would have signed immediately if someone had told me that I would qualify in fourth position! This result is not bad, even if the cars in front of me were faster. However, the worst conditions for us were present today in Q3. We struggled to get the tires up to temperature, which led to grip issues. But I think that tomorrow, if the track is dry, we will be more competitive and we will be able to fight against the drivers who are ahead today. Even though it’s hard to predict, I think we will have two or three pit stops tomorrow. Regarding starting from the dirty side of the track, I think I can still have a normal start.
Fernando Alonso – 24th and 8th:
« Eighth place is certainly not a good result for us, but we have to accept it and make sure tomorrow is better. I am confident because I know the real potential of the car and it’s worth much more than that. We handled Q1 and Q2 well despite the red flag, which put us under pressure because there wasn’t much time left to do well. If the track had been dry, I don’t think we could have reached pole position, but at least the first two rows. »
Stefano Domenicali – Team Principal:
« We are completely disappointed with this result that does not meet our expectations at all. We managed the first two sessions on a wet track well, but when we switched to dry tires, the issues we’ve had since the beginning of the season reappeared, and here at Spa much more clearly than elsewhere. We are struggling to get the tires to work properly at low temperatures and on wet tracks. On top of all this, there was traffic, which was problematic for Fernando, who was penalized by it. Tomorrow we should race in drier conditions, which leaves us a bit in the unknown regarding tire degradation. Once again, we will try to do better in the race than in qualifying, and I am certain it will be possible for us to bring home a good result. »
