Alonso still believes in the title

As we have just passed the mid-championship mark, Fernando Alonso spoke in Italy about his ambitions for the end of the season. He still thinks about the ultimate title even though he is 89 points behind Vettel and there are 200 points still up for grabs. To bridge the gap, “We must try to win as many races as possible,” because “we have often seen that there can suddenly be turnarounds.” Especially since “We are Ferrari and we have a moral obligation, particularly for our millions of fans around the world, to keep thinking about the title.”

The double world champion will fight until the end, at least as long as we still have a chance, no matter how small, and the Spaniard knows he will have to win races while, at the same time, Vettel makes some mistakes or faces some problems.

However, he is realistic and knows that making predictions in the field of Formula One is very complicated. One person cannot do everything alone, and he uses Adrian Newey as an example. « If you look at Adrian Newey [the technical director of Red Bull Racing], he did not create a car capable of winning the title with a wave of a magic wand at Red Bull. It took several years for the entire team to reach the level it is at today. »

He also reflects on Ferrari’s challenging start to the season «The beginning was difficult. We expected better in this part of the season. In China, I think we hit rock bottom, not only because we were far from the best, like McLaren and Red Bull, but also because we were behind Mercedes and perhaps Renault, who had already achieved two podiums. » But Ferrari has bounced back well, however «We are missing small things in every area, including among the drivers, to be on the level of the best. However, I feel much more integrated into the team than I did a year ago. In terms of driving, I don’t think I’ve ever been this strong before. »
