The penalty is too harsh according to Buemi

Swiss driver Sébastien Buemi was one of the protagonists of the last German GP but not in a positive manner for him and his team. He indeed received a five-place penalty for the Hungarian GP, following his collision with Nick Heidfeld's Lotus Renault GP.

The penalty is too harsh according to Buemi

It’s one of the images from last weekend, where Heidfeld’s Lotus Renault GP car took off from the track after a contact with Sébastien Buemi’s Toro Rosso. Inevitably, after this incident, the stewards were going to take charge of the case, and their decision is that the responsible party for this accident is the Toro Rosso driver. He therefore receives a five-place grid penalty for the Hungarian GP.

But the pill is hard to swallow for Buemi, so much so that he questions the TV footage of the collision, which according to him, doesn’t favor him, quite the contrary. As he confirms to *Autosport*: “The front images are very difficult to understand because you can’t really know where Nick is in relation to my car, especially during braking.” Still according to him, the side and rear images prove that he is in no way responsible for the accident because “I took my normal line, and it was when we braked that he lunged. I wasn’t really expecting him to do that during braking because the chance of him overtaking me without contact was very low.”

On the LRGP driver’s side, of course, there is a diametrically opposite discourse. For the German driver, the one responsible is Buemi because he could not avoid the accident after the latter’s maneuver.

The Swiss driver will certainly have an extra determination to set the record straight at the Hungarian event, and he will rely on the good performance of his car and the good condition of the Pirelli tires to get into the points during the race.
