Lopez about to buy the Spa-Francorchamps circuit?
Gérard Lopez, the owner of the Lotus Renault GP team, is reportedly interested in acquiring the legendary Spa-Francorchamps circuit in Belgium.
According to the RTBF (French-speaking Belgian television), the Luxembourg businessman is reportedly leading a group of investors aiming to purchase the Spa-Francorchamps circuit and organize the Belgian Grand Prix.
As talks continue about a future (still unlikely) alternation between the Belgian Grand Prix and the French Grand Prix at Castellet, this information seems to support a certain longevity for the Belgian circuit, nicknamed the “rollercoaster of the Ardennes.”
Gérard Lopez would not be making his first investment in motorsport, having partially purchased in 2009 and then completely the following year the Renault F1 Team, which has since become Lotus Renault GP and being the owner of Gravity Sport Management, a company that manages the careers of young drivers.
The organization of a Grand Prix would, however, be a first for the Luxembourgish businessman.
