Sunday: Weekend of misfortune for Buemi and Toro Rosso
Scuderia Toro Rosso cannot be satisfied with their weekend. Despite Alguersuari's good performance, finishing 12th after starting from 17th place, the Italian team faced numerous issues with Buemi's car. The Swiss driver finished 15th nonetheless and is under investigation after his collision with Nick Heidfeld. A weekend to forget.
Jaime Alguersuari – 12th:
«This race wasn’t so bad and I feel that I did a good job, given our position on the starting grid. However, the race pace wasn’t as good as in Valencia or Silverstone, and I was a bit disappointed with our brakes. The strategy was good though, and the team worked well again. So now, we need to focus on the Budapest circuit in a few days, where I hope we can score some points…»
Sebastien Buemi – 15th:
Unfortunately, I had planned a setup for the rain today, which never came… I had a good start, overtaking a few cars. But after that, Heidfeld hit me, and I got a puncture. I had to return to the pits, adjust my strategy which was already not planned for the dry… It’s a disappointing weekend and we cannot be satisfied with these performances. We focus on what’s next and forget about this.
Franz Tost – Director:
The Nürburgring does not seem to be a track for Toro Rosso. Yesterday we had a problem with Sebastien Buemi, when his fuel mixture was not compliant with FIA regulations, likely due to the issues we had on Friday when we had to redo his fuel pressure system. He started from the last position, and this time he had a problem during the race. His right rear tire was punctured when Heidfeld hit him. We had to change his strategy, and he remained around the 15th position. He also had to cope with a poor setup, intended for rain despite it not raining… adding a bit more trouble to the mix…
Jaime Alguersuari got off to a good start and gained two places to take the 14th position. He posted good lap times, and the hard tires allowed him to cross the finish line in 12th place, which was the best position one could hope for today…
